Where has the time gone since I last posted something here? I should be ashamed really, part of my overall plan this year was to get this site up and running with some decent traffic levels. Well it’s not quite worked out like that due to the stupid amount of things I’ve got going on in my life. I’ve taught myself however that with anything like this it’s purely about making time and forcing myself to upload new content. You’ll be seeing more of me over the coming weeks and months (definitely).

Part of my job as an Online Publishing Manager involves looking after the search engine marketing of the websites I publish, a company I’ve come across in the past and done some business with – Ambergreen Internet Marketing – invited me last week to fly up to Scotland for their first annual search engine optimisation conference.
Loads of great speakers including Jonathan MacDonald (fantastic presenter) on the future of mobile and a presentation by Ambergreen on the new developments in the search sector.
Some key findings I took away from the day:
- If your not already optimising your site for universal search you’ll be at a loss 6 months down the line.
- Google products can make your life very easy if you sell pruniversial search,. oducts.
- Google are apparantley logging engagement and usability data when users browse websites through Chrome. MSN are also doing the same with IE8 in order to further improve natural search results. Great idea in my opinion, people always forget about usability.
- I think I like Whiskey, full credit to Ambergreen for putting on the night’s entertainment.
Also managed to bump into one of the founders of HubDub.com the social news prediction site. I signed up a couple of months ago and thought it was great. They have a near perfect model of social media syndication marketing, they attract ‘new’ users by allowing current users to spread topical and current predictions through their Twitter, Facebook et al accounts.
Thanks to Tino, Grant, David, Eliza and everyone else who made it such a good event.
