I’m a big follower of problogger.net, Darren Rowse produces some great content around the themes of developing and growing blogs through all means including editorial, marketing, services etc. He recently announced that he would produce a 31 day tailored guide to improving users blogs if they followed all the steps. Since I feel I’ve lost touch with this site recently and massively want to get back on track I thought this would be a perfect exercise to take part in.
Day 1 challenge – Create elevator pitch for your site.
An elevator pitch can as defined by Wikipedia is “an overview of an idea for a product, service, or project. The name reflects the fact that an elevator pitch can be delivered in the time span of an elevator ride (for example, thirty seconds or 100-150 words).” it’s important according to Darren that you communicate to your users what you do as a blog or person and try to get them to want to know more.
I’ve taken a stab at writing an elevator pitch for this site, let me know what you think.
BedroomPublishing.com – A UK centric digital marketing blog aimed at ensuring marketers receive maximum ROI by providing only the most important news, guides, strategies and developments in digital marketing.
Darren also highlights some interesting places you can re-use this so I would suggest that anyone that looks after a site (of any kind) should create one. Examples include:
- Your blogs tag line
- Your about page
- Real Life Conversation
- Business Cards
- Pitching to Media
- Pitching to Other Bloggers
- Email Signature
- Social Media Profiles
All perfect examples in my opinion of where you need a standardised message, much like a company strap line. Getting this right will help you focus on what you do and stop you deviating whilst of course ensuring you maximise your return on investment.
Keep an eye out each day for my response the new challenges set.
