I’ve had my Twitter account for a good while now but I’ve noticed over the last couple of months I’ve started to use it less and less. I’ve got over 600 followers and follow updates from over 800 people across the world. I reckon I know about 50 of the people that follow me and about 80 people that I follow.
So why then do I follow updates from 700+ people I really don’t know? Lots of people have been recommended to me other influential blogs and I get the odd gem of information. Lot’s of status updates I receive though are rubbish so it was great to this article Why it Pays To Purge – Making Efficent Use of Twitter on Twitip.com a site by Darren Rowse from ProBlogger.net.
There is some great advice in there including the below snippet which sums up the authors views nicley.
I know that what I’ve described sound quite radical, but believe me, if Twitter has become an out of control stream of tweets that you can’t keep up with, it really is your only option.
Now i’ve drastically cut the number of people I follow down to the bare bones, I’ve rediscovered my love for this great tool.
